March 18th is National Awkward Moments Day

Am I the only one? I did not know that March 18th is National Awkward Moments Day. What have I been missing out on?

You might ask, How do I celebrate this holiday? Hmmmm… well, my way is to tell you the first thing that comes to mind when I think of an awkward moment.

It was a day like any other. A day of menial chores like laundry and porch sweeping along with placid pleasantries like sipping tea while reading the newspaper. Our dog Cooper was also having a normal day… eat, nap, go outside to pee, repeat. Likewise, husband Sandy was busy with his things, puttering in the garage, napping, peeing, eating, repeat.

It was one of those serene days with an unconscious sense of safety and peace. A day with no reason to be on alert or on edge. The sort of day you take for granted.

But then…

I walk into the downstairs bedroom to freshen the guest bed with clean sheets. On the wall is a small door that leads to the dark, dirty, spidery hole under our house. With my back to that wall, I open the drawer holding the desired set of flowered sheets. A chill shoots down my spine when I hear THAT door open behind me. Turning slowly, blurry-eyed with fear, I see a naked man crawling out of the wall. My scream should have stirred the…
