Good tip...I'm wondering if my book has some of those as well. :(

I’d stick with every other word here — I’d just try to remember to be cautious of this and when I’m writing something similar, where I’m trying to add in details to help flesh out the scene. I’ll keep the latte there — I’ll just make a note not to add the ‘four-dollar’ part, which can date a story and throw the reader out of the scene.
