I agree that racism is learned at an early age and that is where healing and education need to start. I'm grateful I recognized my parent's racism (maybe because I was raised in the 60s when people were speaking out more?) I honestly don't know. Although they could not articulate good reasons for racism, they never let go of it. It made me determined to raise my children to be aware of the senselessness of it. As they matured, they could not believe what their sweet grandparents held in hearts. Sadly, their arguments did little to change their minds. The attitude was one of "that's how it has always been." They're gone now and I choose to believe they are free of those chains. Thanks for a well-written article.
