JUST HAPPENED TO BE WALKING BY THE LIBRARY… AGAIN
A Bucket List Moment
I just happened to be walking by our local library, so I wander in. It’s a lovely, warm place to visit with interesting characters scattered among the shelves and tables. My eyes are drawn to a bench near the stairs where a woman wearing assorted layers clutches her many bags of stuff. The man next to her is trying to read his book in spite of her constant chatter. No one but me and the man trying to read seem to notice that she is not using her library voice. But the librarian does notice me, peering over the top of her computer screen with a questioning look.
Dang it. She’s made me, again. Truth is I didn’t just happen by the library. For the past week I’ve become what one might call a gumshoe, sleuthing around the shelves. If you asked the librarian, she might be less kind, naming me a stalker.
“Good morning,” I nod.
“Your book is not on the shelf yet. We’re working on it,” she responds returning her glance to the computer.
I try to look confused like I wasn’t wanting to know that, but I don’t think she fell for it. Maybe I’m a little excited to have my book in the library. When I filled out the form last week, handing over two fresh off the press copies, I realized this is a bucket list moment. I don’t actually have a…
