This is so important for people to understand.

Knowing what I know now as a former alcoholic, it all makes sense. We go from dabbling to drinking like others drink, to functional drinking where we still work and do all of the normal adult things, to thinking we are holding it together when we are really not, and to the inevitable downward spiral.

This is so important for people to understand. Yes, I had times when I could appear to be near perfect and other times, I was certifiable. I think your description is spot on for many of us.
