This poem says it all. Kindness is meant to be given freely and it carries so much power.

I do not know the grief that others mourn,
for I do not see the heart nor the crying soul.
The pain from the many storms, they are worn. 
I do not know the grief that others mourn,
spirits broken and senses torn. 
I see these lives today and tomorrow, a solemn toll.
