What are You Feeding Your Soul?
Are you searching for goods on the bargain rack?
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. (Philippians 4:8, ESV).
Do you remember the old Nutri-Grain bar commercials? I’m still haunted by the one where the woman walks away with cinnamon buns on her behind. If you don’t recall it, click here to view the retro ad: You are what you eat.
I not only agree with the ad’s concept, “we are what we eat,” but I would also say we are what we consume in other ways as well.
Recently, I’m in a bathroom stall at Walmart when the lights go out. Grave-like silence hangs as I sit listening for footsteps. I stand placing an ear to the door, hoping if I hear signs of life, they’re friendly.
Finally, I slide the latch to escape, when SWOOSH, the automatic toilet flushes behind me, releasing an involuntary squeal from the depths of my lungs.
In that moment, I see the face of every serial killer, psychopath, and random murderer we’ve been watching on TV.
I raced back to my car without solving the mystery of the lights.
