Why Do I Write?
A #bloganuary prompt by WordPress
Sometimes I ask myself why I write with a snarky attitude. You know, the voice that stomps a foot wondering if anyone cares. The voice that asks, “If a writer falls in the forest and no one is around to read them, will anyone give a crap?”
Okay, maybe that’s not the exact quote.
The full quote from Dr. George Berkeley, an Anglican Bishop and philosopher in the 1600s, was this: “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” The answer, according to George, is that, yes, it did make a sound, because God heard it.
And that is why I write.
I write because God placed something on my heart. It might be a full-on praise fest for the miracles he continues to perform. Or it might be a quirky funny story that has no divine value — or does it? Is not laughter a God-given gift? It could also be a rant. I’m choking one down right now wondering why Grammarly wants me to change the word divine in the above sentence to religious.
Sometimes I simply must spill the darkest gunk in my soul not knowing if I’ll serve it up or toss it out when finished. Other times I just want to tell you a story about the time I swallowed a frozen raw oyster or when I hung out with Dolly Parton in a trailer.
